From the 24th of June 2010, o2 will be scrapping the unlimited data plan for new iPhone customers.

Existing iPhone customers on an unlimited data plan can keep that plan as long as they don’t change tariff, or upgrade to the new iPhone 4.

Anyone getting a new iPhone from 24th June will instead be offered a tariff with the following:

Cap of 500MB of data a month – £25 to £35 a month contracts

Cap of 750MB of data a month – £40 to £45 a month contracts

Cap of 1GB of data a month – £60 or £65 a month contracts

Given that many iPhone users are heavy data users, this new cap will be far from ideal, and many may choose to either a) not upgrade to the new iPhone 4 and keep their existing Unlimited contract, or b) shift to a network that offers a less extreme data cap.

Although the new data caps take effect from 24th June, it seems o2 won’t be enforcing them until 1st October 2010. From 1st October 2010, it’ll be an extra £5 for each block of 500MB used.

Hacked off with o2′s new data policy? Add a comment below!

After some delays, the Apple iPad hit the UK market today, the 28th May 2010. Queues were let into the Apple Store in Central London this morning at 8am, with many camping out overnight to get their hands on the latest goodie from Apple.

First across the line at the store in London was a 17 year old lad from Essex. Mac-man Stephen Fry was there too – he’s already got one, but after being at the launch back in January, it seems he felt he had to be there… and why not.

Prices for the iPad start at £429 for the 16GB wi-fi version, right up to £699 for the 64GB version with Wi-fi and 3G, It seems that pre-order demand was high, and it seems that web pre-orders now won’t be shipped until the 7th of June.

Any of our lovely listeners been in the queues today? Any comments on your iPad experiences appreciated!

A reminder that today is “Towel Day“. We hope our listeners all have their towels or modified face flannels stowed in their satchels today.

No idea what we’re talking about? Shame on you! A towel is probably the most handy thing you can own. “A man who can hitch the length and breadth of the galaxy, rough it, slum it, struggle against terrible odds, win through, and still knows where his towel is, is clearly a man to be reckoned with”.

Today is marked by fans of the wholly remarkable radio series, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, as Towel Day. The date commemorates two weeks after the author, Douglas Adams, ascended to the Restaurant at the End of the Universe, on 11th May 2001.

In searching to see which of the newspapers have mentioned Towel Day, the Telegraph referred me to an article written by Douglas in 1999 – It’s well worth a read: How to stop worrying and learn to love the Internet.

We’d also like to point to a rather good deal on the radio series (the original and best Hitchhikers version) – All five series of the radio series can be purchased for £36 (saving £44), from Play.com. There’s a bonus CD of extras and behind-the-scenes stuff too. Free postage and packing all the way from Ursa Minor.

Once again, happy Towel Day to you all, and Don’t Panic!

HHGG fan? Add a quote below…
