A software upgrade for the Apple iPhone has just been released. The latest version of firmware includes a number of bugfixes and improvements, including:

  • Enhancements to Maps, including Google Street View
  • Enhancements to Mail, including issues with Fetch and HTML formatting
  • Improved stability and performance of Safari
  • Podcasts are now available for download in iTunes application (over Wi-Fi and cellular network)
  • Decrease in call set-up failures and call drops
  • Improved sound quality of visual voicemail messages
  • Pressing the Home button from any Home screen takes you to the first Home screen
  • Preference to turn on/off auto-correction in Keyboard Settings

Podcast Audience Reseach – Official UK numbers released

Some interesting reading for UK podcasters. RAJAR, the firm that look after audience research for UK commercial and BBC radio stations, has released the results of their first survey into podcast listening.The survey took place in September and October 2007, and here are the highlights of their findings:

  • 1.8 million people in the UK listen to podcasts at least once a week
  • The average podcast listener subscribes to 3 podcasts
  • 80% of people listen on their home computer, and only 60% listen on a portable player
  • Listening: 80% of listeners listen at home, 25% in the car, 21% on public transport and 18% at work
  • Most listeners listen in the evening (7pm-midnight)
  • 66% of listeners use iTunes to get their podcasts
  • Of those that listen on an MP3 player, 32% have iPods, with Sony products coming in second
  • The three most subscribed to genres are: comedy, music and technology (good news for FrequencyCast, eh?)

Unofficial Digital Switch Audio Guide launched

UK Podcast Team, FrequencyCast has released an audio podcast providing help on the Digital Switchover. This follows results of our survey telling us that 39% of our listeners and visitors aren’t ready for analogue TV to be switched off. See our press release for more.

Our “Unofficial Guide to The Digital Switchover” looks at the top ten things you need to know, and answers our listener’s common switchover questions.

 The show lasts for 20 minutes, and can be downloaded for free from our Digital Switch page
