Interview: The History of Radio

Posted on 15 June 201019 July 2012 By FrequencyCast No Comments on Interview: The History of Radio

Old radio setToday marks ninety years since the first ‘real’ radio broadcast in the UK. On the 15th of June 1920, one of the world’s most popular voices took to the microphone in Chelmsford, Essex and sang to the world using the Marconi system we now know as radio.

Pete from FrequencyCast was at the celebrations to mark the historic broadcast, and was able to secure an interview with John Bower, the chairman of the Chelmsford Amateur Radio Society. In the interview, John looks back at the events of 1920, talks a little about today’s radio amateur, explains that the moon is in our grasp, and looks at issues such as the troublesome Powerline adapters and DAB radio.

Anyone with even a casual interest in radio should find this a fascinating interview, and we’d love you to take a listen.

You can download the 20 minute interview, or listen online, at www.frequencycast.co.uk/historyofradio.html
