Huge fans as we are, some of the FrequencyCast team donned their towels and modified face flannels to go and get immersed in all things Hitchhikers Guide-related.

Between September and November 2013, the Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy Radio Show Live is on tour across the UK, and we went to see the show in September. This is the second year that the show has been traveling around the country, and it’s a cracking show, especially if you have fond memories of the original BBC Radio series.

This stage show version makes clever use of live sound effect, a real-live band and a lot of ingenuity to make the audience feel like they’;re part of a radio show, but of cours, what makes it special, is the cast. Arthur Dent (Simon Jones), Ford Prefect (Geoffrey McGivern) and Trillian (Susan Sheridan) are voices that many of us grew up with, playing key characters. Mark Wing-Davy wasn’t available, so a new voice is playing Zaphod Beeblebrox, and the choice is a stroke of genius… Mitch Benn.

We’ve put together a short audio report, including an exclusive interview with the new voice of Zaphod, plus comments from the team and a few colourful members of the audience.

As expected, Kelly was a no-show, so guest FrequencyCast presenter Alice Ryan helped us out by looking after Pete for the evening – she truly entered into the spirit by bringing along her towel. Good girl!

We’ll be giving a mention to the stage version of the show in our upcoming October show, but as time will be tight in our next show, we thought you’d appreciate a 10 minute piece of bonus material discussing all things Guide.

If you get the chance to see the show during this year’s run – do so. Even if you’re not a fan of the series, you’ll appreciate the atmosphere, and the effort that’s gone into making the show. It’s also nice to see a decent number of towels, badges and dressing downs in the audience… keeping the Douglas Adams dream alive. Also good to see some new material in this year’s show, especially the Golgafrincham “B” ark… What a load of useless loonies.

Cracking show. Go see it. Share and Enjoy!
