Posted on 17 October 200925 April 2010 By FrequencyCast 12 Comments on Freeview on the iPhone

iPhone users – you can now watch 11 Freeview channels live on your phone.

The service from TVCatchup.com allows you to watch the following channels:

BBC1, BBC2, BBC3, ITV1, ITV2, Channe 4, Five, Film 4, e4, More 4 and 4 Music.

Catchup TV on iPhone

To watch, point your iPhone web browser to http://iphone.tvcatchup.com/ – No subscription, no sign-up, no app to install. Nice!

Update. One commenter below doesn’t believe that this actually works, or is some kind of viral application. To clarify, this is not an installable app – it’s all done using the native iPhone browser and media player. Here’s a screen grab of TVcatchup in action on an iPhone:

You can also watch this online at: http://www.tvcatchup.com/

You do need to signup first but all Freeview programmes are free thereafter.

I was almost going to pay for this app on eBay before I realized that it was free. Good stuff, picture quality is good and sound is fantastic.
It only took me a couple of minutes to setup and can’t believe it comes absolutely free.
Just recommended a few friends who are surprised with this app.
    Fantastic!

This is rubbish, and I think viral software. First off it requires Flash, which is not available on the iPhone. Will NEVER and can NEVER work on the iPhone. Hopeless.

Not sure you’ve read our original article correctly, or actually tried this Mr. Piamir, but I’m guessing you haven’t

Catchuptv.com let you watch live TV streamed via a web browser. This is not an app and requires no installation. You go to the web address, create a free account (username, password and email address), then you can watch live TV via the Safari browser and iPhone native media player.

As for the comment about Flash – Flash is NOT required. The iPhone is perfectly capable of playing streaming video without the need for Flash.

I’ve just taken a screen cap of some live TV using this website, which I’ll upload to our original article.

On entering your details to get freeview, using Safari on your iphone there is small print that states Adobe Flash Player (install Flash Now (Free). You are directed to Adobe, however there is no flash available for the iphone.

Once signed in (Free) On occasions you can press on the channel icons, and you end up with a TVcatchup boarder with a black centre (no channel)with Javascript line errors

Excellent… Just made account on pc and then opened up in Safari.. The stream is approx 40 secs behind TV and is brilliant. As many other people have done i was going to purchase from Ebay, Glad i didnt. Would love to see an app, but im sure that would be at a cost. Thank you for a brilliant freebie…
