New Look Gadget Show, and Microsoft's 180:

Transcript continues from UK Web Domain Changes

Pete:

Right, Kelly - time to talk Gadget Show. Now, Gadget Show, Jason Bradbury, Pollyanna Woodward?

Kelly:

Yes?

Pete:

Two new presenters. The new series started a couple of weeks ago. Jon Bentley is back!

Kelly:

Woo-hoo!

Pete:

We like John, and also a new face and voice, Rachel Riley. Yes, the face of Countdown is now also the face of Gadget Show, and she's lovely. If you're listening, Rachel, hello from FrequencyCast.

Kelly:

Hello!

Pete:

OK, controversy time - Microsoft have been in the news. Have you been following the developments on the Xbox One?

Kelly:

No, I really have not.

Pete:

In that case, YouTube clip: Boogie2988 - he's quite a sexy-looking man, isn't he?

Kelly:

Er, no.

Pete:

This is what he's had to say on this particular story, and the deal here is, the Xbox One has DRM (digital rights management) that means, once every 24 hours, it will check that you're allowed to be playing the games that you're playing. If you haven't got an internet connection, or your internet connection fails, you can't play any games, which is a little bit draconian, and this chap from America is not happy at all.

Boogie:

All we want is an offline mode! We never asked for an online mode! We never asked for a 24-hour check-in, but they gave it to us anyway! We tell them we don't want it! You are disconnected from your customer base!

Pete:

He's an unhappy bunny, isn't he?

Kelly:

He is a very, very, unhappy bunny.

Pete:

However, the good news is, Microsoft has done a 180 degree turnaround, and has just announced it is going to drop this every 24 hours internet check.

Kelly:

Ah well, he will be having the biggest party to celebrate.

Pete:

And here he is, partying.

Boogie:

We did it! We did it! - in the face of all this bad PR, all this negative publicity, and the lack of presales for the console. Woo hoo!

Pete:

There you go - the power of the internet, and well done to Boogie2988.
