Global Radio own more local commercial radio stations in the UK than any other company, and in a bid to consolodate, they’re looking to re-brand nearly 30 of their local stations to either “Heart” or “Galaxy”.
Local radio stations set to lose their identities include: 2-Ten FM, Chiltern Radio, Essex FM, GWR, Hereward, Invicta FM, 2CR, Marcher, Fox FM, Broadland and SGR. Stations that have worked hard to establish a local identity and brand.
These changes are due to happen in the next 12 to 18 months.

This Wednesday, the 10th September 2008, the Large Hadron Collider gets fired up.
The criteria for this, the world’s most expensive experiment, ranges from ‘nothing happens’ to the creation of a black hole underneath Switzerland, putting the world’s Toblerone supply at risk.
In the event that the world ends this week, October’s podcast may be a little late… We’d like to apologise to all of our surviving listeners

The Sony Reader PRS-505 was released this week.
If you’re not up-to-speed with what the PRS-505 is, it’s an electronic book reader. It’s been available in the US for a little while, but this week’s launch of the Sony Reader, in association with Waterstones marks the first major marketing push for sale of electronic books in the UK.
This eBook reader makes use of something called e-ink, to draw and display pages in a way very pleasing to the eye, without use of a backlight. The screen has to be seen to be believed. It’s also amazingly power efficient, and an impressive piece of technology.
We hope to be putting together an audio review within the next 7 days - in the meantime, you can read our early review on our new eBook Reader page
