Waze adds Sat Nav Voice Broadcasting

Posted on 8 February 20118 February 2011 By FrequencyCast No Comments on Waze adds Sat Nav Voice Broadcasting

As you know, here at FrequencyCast, we love Waze – the free DIY Smartphone Sat Nav application.

Waze Voice BroadcastingIf  you’ve not heard Pete banging on about Waze in a recent show, it’s a free application for iPhone, Android, Windows Mobile and Symbian smartphones that allows users to create road maps, earn points for “munching” or creating new roads, and to allow information sharing.

For a while, you’ve been able to report traffic incidents to other road users, and even take a picture that’s shared to those in the area.

Today’s release of the latest version of the Waze app goes one better. See an accident or a hold-up? Tap the ‘Report’ button and record a voice note, such as:

“Blimey, it’s a bit slow on the M25 at Junction 21. Wish I’d gone the other way!”

That message then gets pushed to other Wazers in the area, effectively turning you into a radio station traffic reporter, broadcasting out travel news to your fellow drivers.

How’s that for cleverness? Bet your shiney new TomTom can’t do that!

Get the Waze app for free, and give it a try. The voice broadcast stuff is only available for the iPhone at the moment, no doubt this will be added to the other platforms shortly.

PS: With Valentine’s Day round the corner, there are new munchable goodies, including Rolos and boxes of choccies. Happy munching, y’all…
