Pete:
Now, talking of tablets and YouTube, as well as putting up our Gadget Show Live video, we’ve also done something rather creative, haven’t we? – what have we done?
Kelly:
We have – we’ve done our own, making of FrequencyCast.
Pete:
Yes, if you’re interested in what goes on behind the scenes, we were actually inspired to do this watching the BBC news countdown, where they had all the extracts of what goes on behind the scenes, and we’ve got a rather nice little two-minute video showing what really happens here at FrequencyCast.
Kelly:
I know – it’s not quite as exciting as the BBC going round the world, and reporting on very sudden news items, but it is a lot of fun, so if you want to see what’s actually happening, then do go and have a look on YouTube.
Pete:
Now, a couple of listeners have been in touch asking what has happened to Carl.. We keep him locked in a cupboard most of the time, don’t we?
Kelly:
Yeah, I mean, to be honest, he’s just not allowed out that much.
Pete:
But we did drag him to Birmingham for another one of our little trips up to Gadget Show Live, and here is Carl telling us what he thought of this year’s show.
Carl:
Yeah, I’m a cynical person. I like to look at gadgets and things from the future, and go, what do we need that for? – and I’ve done that so much today, I feel really proud of myself.
Pete:
Now Carl, you’re an audio chap, and you’ve spent quite a lot of time with speakers and headphones. What have you found that’s excited you?
Carl:
Well, I must admit, I’ve been waiting for this to happen. For the last two years, we’ve been looking at products that you can plug your iPhone or your mp3 player into, and you can have sound, the sort of thing you can take on holiday, a speaker in your room or on the beach, or just in your bedroom, and you get big power, big bass. It’s all been about volume over the last few years. I’ve always thought this suffers, it suffers from one key fact:
all these years, I’ve had two ears, and now I’ve gone mono again. It’s like, I’ve moved forward to go backwards, and this is one of the key factors, why I don’t like technology. But today, I’ve found someone who’s actually sussed it, and now they have two small speakers in stereo, what you really want from a decent sort of remote speaker system.
Pete:
Can you remember who was making those?
Carl:
On the Damson stand.
Pete:
What else have you seen? – I saw you looking at gardening stuff earlier. That seemed a bit unusual.
Carl:
Over the years, more and more companies are dealing with gardening and tools and cutting and shears and things like that. I’m looking behind you right now, and we can see a company called Cel. They’ve got lawnmowers, but talking about lawnmowers, there was a remote lawnmower by Honda, wasn’t there?
Pete:
I want to ride around on that – that was awesome.
Carl:
I don’t think you can ride around on it. I say remote – it was actually automatic, wasn’t it? – it was just completely programmable, just let it do its own thing. As well as that, I’ve seen some headphones, I always have headphones; watches – build your own watch by Vibe Watch – that was a very interesting stand; but also a stand full of tablets – all different styles and sizes and shapes, and hey – £45! – £45 for a tablet, only at the Gadget Show though.
Pete:
So Carl, have you had a good time?
Carl:
Wonderful. Burger?
Pete:
Thanks, Carl. Shall we put him back in his cupboard now?
Kelly:
I think so, I mean he’s had his day trip.
